As the internet became full of the buzz that Dell would no longer be making or selling their Mini 9 many people wondered why. It was heralded for being great at being hacked and turned into a hackintosh, it fit nicely in the lineup of other Mini netbooks from Dell – it just didn’t make sense. Then it hit me, it must have to do with money!
Specifically the cost of compenents like screen, and memory must have made the Mini 9 unprofitable to keep making. Oftertimes suppliers give the best ...

MyDellMini.com has a forum point where someone added touch screen capabilities to their Dell Mini 9 netbook. They did it under the Ubuntu Linux operating system with parts purchased from eBay.
If your interested in doing something similar, you can find the forum thread here.
There’s actually a video of the finished product. You can find it below.

Netbooks are a pretty recent phenomenon. Before netbooks became mainstream you had regular notebooks and UMPCs which were more like mini-tablet PCs than anything else.
Over the course of 2008, people searching for netbooks has grown dramatically. It’s pretty surprising to see where the people are located that are searching for these ultraportable notebook computers.
Hawaii leads the way in searches with Washington in second place. It’s more of a West Coast phenomenon for now with people in almost every state looking to get their hands on a Acer Aspire One or ...

It looks like the 2008 Black Friday deals aren’t going to be limited to the traditional brick and mortar companies. Dell is going to be participating in the Black Friday festivities and has a treat for those willing to wake up bright and early on Friday.
They’ll be offering a Mini 9 for $299. This is at least a $50 savings over their base configuration. It remains to be seen if they’ll be throwing anything else in there for the price.
Is anyone planning on picking one of these up?

Pointing fingers never feels good. It goes back to being in grade school and never wanting to be the tattle tale. Still when something isn’t right you have to correct it. Liliputing.com, a great site for all things computer related, posted a story about QVC selling the Dell Mini 9 netbook for $529 which should only be $449 by their count.

The problem is that when you look at what QVC is selling you realize that it actually isn’t a bad deal, as much as QVC usually seems like a ripoff ...

You’ve probably heard about netbooks at one point or the other, but may be curious what they are and why they’ve suddenly become so popular. On the other hand, you may have never heard of them and this is a formal introduction.
It all began with the Psion 5MX. Years ago products like this gave people a lot of the benefits of a notebook without having to carry a large nine or ten pound computer. From there, products like the OLPC XO got a lot of people excited because it was ...
