Agreed. I know a lot of people who don't use their netbook on their lap and use a desk. They wouldn't care about the difference in heat. Besides a firmware update could help with thermal policy the same way that Asus does for their line of Intel netbooks. Can't argue about battery life - AMD decided to make their processors in between a CULV and Atom chip which just makes them look inferior.

The fact is that the 1005PR will include a Broadcom HD encoder which has been proven to be able to handle 720p and 1080p video without any issue. It would have cost Asus $2 - $5 to add it to their motherboard but the risk to their business and relationship with Intel made it not worth the investment. If it didn't come with a Broadcom card, I'd agree with you completely.

interesting guesses, but the real reason that no N450 models include it is that the pinetrail chipset (NM10 / GMA 3150) simply doesn't support it. GMA 3150 also doesn't support full HD resolutions so its not really suitable as a media center even with a broadcom HD chip inside.

Yes, a backlit keyboard was my #1 priority since I often work in low-light conditions. What's wrong with these companies not to provide the options that so many people want? It's the constant question: do these people really use the products they design? For example, why did it take 50 years for car companies to put in cup holders? Finally Dell learned this with their 1440 Studios, which I finally purchased after returning that XPS with its horrible glossy design. Again, why do they still make these things? Hopefully, Dell and others will be making backlit keyboards in the future, or at least as an option. So until then, no netbook.
