Nvidia’s ION 2 graphics platform is designed to work with Intel’s latest line of N4XX processors.  Netbooks with ION 2 graphics will start showing up at online retailers in Q1 of 2010.  The first one’s will come from Acer in the form of the 532G but expect Asus, HP, MSI, Toshiba, and Dell to follow up with their own offerings.

Acer may not be as well known as HP, Compaq or Dell but when it comes to netbooks Acer is king.  With their number 1 status it’s no wonder that they are announcing the Acer Aspire One 532G.  After a long series of Nvidia ION based netbooks which have been praised for their blend of video performance and extended battery life.

The 1001P is the little brother to the 1005PE.  You can read our comparison of the two models here.  For $299 the 1001P provides exceptional battery life and value.

With so many 10 inch netbooks out and available LaptopMag compared several 10 inch netbooks with the Intel N450 Atom processor from Dell, Acer, HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba to find out which is the best.  To come to that conclusion they compared the look and feel, keyword, battery life, and software.

Below is a chart of netbooks retailing for under $299 powered by the Intel N450 Atom processor. You’ll notice that many of the models get over 7 hours of battery life with a 6 cell battery. Models with lower battery life tend to have the option for only 802.11g and not the faster 802.11n. Not needing a fan on the processor, building the graphics controller into the chip and lowering the resolution of the camera to .3MP from 1.3MP have significantly helped the 2010 class of netbooks.

Even since netbooks like the HP Mini 311 have come out people have been trying to find a way to get the performance of an ION netbook without the cost or having to run out and get a new netbook.  It was at that point Broadcom came to the rescue with a line of mini PCI-e cards.  You can check and see if your netbook has any usable mini PCI-e slots here.

The Gateway LT2106u N450 Atom netbook is the kissing cousin to the Acer Aspire One 532h.  Gateway, along with eMachines are all under Acer’s parent brand.  While the styling is slightly different the specs are exactly the same as the 532h.  They include:
