The 1201N is one of the most popular netbooks in 2010.  It blends a large high resolution screen with Nvidia ION graphics, small size, and 5+ hour battery life into a package which is appealing for students and professionals.
While many people are looking for the Asus 1201N netbook in black, it’s currently available in silver.
According to our 1201N price tracker prices are more than $15 on the original black version of the Asus 1201N with stores selling it for around $485.
Amazon.com is currently selling the silver version for $484.

Asus realizes that they aren’t going to be able to persuade everyone to pay almost $500 for a 1201N.  With the 1201NL they are providing the most important feature, the Nvidia ION chipset while cheaping out in other places.
You’re not going to get a Dual Core N330 Atom processor.  Instead you’ll get a N270.  Also don’t expect a 1.3MP webcam because it’s only going to be .3MP.  Lastly the operating system isn’t going to be Windows 7.  You’ll get Windows XP or Linux.
These changes should hopefully bring the best parts …

Dear Newegg,

Please update the product description for the 1201N to make sure people know it only has a 3 CELL instead of a 6 CELL battery.  You guys have wowed millions of customers by having great prices and great service so I don’t think this was done on purpose.  Here’s the thing though, you have people who are buying, trying and likely returning this computer because of the omission.  That means that guys like me who were really waiting for one can’t buy one.  I’m not sure what’s so different …

Engadget took some time to review the 1201N and overall they came away impressed.  The big key to the Asus Eee 1201N is the Nvidia ION chipset.  The idea behind the chipset is to provide the advantage of streaming 1080p video on a computer which normally wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Pictured above is the new Asus 1201N ION netbook.  It will feature a 12.1 inch screen, Dual Core N330 Atom processor, 250 GB hard drive, Windows 7, 802.11b/n wireless networking and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM.
It is available for preorder from Amazon.com for $499.  This is $50 more than what we guessed it would be when we wrote about the 1201N previously.
This price point may make people uneasy since it’s close to what you could pay for a full sized computer with a media drive but there are advantages.
