The 1201N is famous in black, but it also comes in a silver color. The 1201N-PU17-SL is the model number and aside from the paint job all of the other specs are the exact same. The pictures come courtesy of …

Best Buy has undercut the whole internet and is now offering the 1201N for only $449. That’s $50 less than it’s MSRP and at least $20 cheaper than anyone curruently selling it online.
After comparing it to the other models available from other stores it appears that to offer it for the $449 price they removed bluetooth, and lowered the RAM from 2GB to 1GB. An advantage is that the 1201NB has a matte cover which will help and prevent fingerprints from showing up easily.
Aside from that everything else is the …

The Asus 1201N is currently available in black and also in silver but no sites have it available in red. While it may not show up in the US, the Asus 1201N does in fact come in red.
The picture to the right came from Mobileandnotebook.com.
The image, and others on the page were taken during the IT Month show in Taipei.
From looking at the image it doesn’t appear that the netbook is red as much as it is burnt orange.

People have put the 1201N through the paces and this time someone tested an Asus 1201N with 4GB of RAM instead of the 2GB it comes with. Also, they wanted to test out how much of an improvement would be seen by upgrading the hard drive from a regular SATA drive to a SSD hard drive.
As you may have imagined updating the memory from 2 to 4GB only provided marginal updates. In some instances the most it sped things up like opening up Microsoft Excel was 20%.

Even though the 1201NL is on it’s way to being made available without an OS [Update: The 1201NL will come with Windows 7, but with an N270 processor instead of a N330], Phoronix couldn’t wait and decided to replace Windows 7 Starter on a 1201N. It took them a little while to get all of the drivers installed but they were able to make the transition to Ubuntu.
After benchmarking it against a Samsung NC10 you discover that the N330 with ION processor has some obvious advantages when playing games but …

While the internet is ablaze with their infatuation with the Asus 1201N, it looks like people are running into problems too. It turns out that when people try to do this costly upgrade the netbook isn’t seeing all 8GB. Instead it’s only seeing 2GB.
