Gateway EC14D07U Netbook: Rest In Peace

After only a few short months available in the retail market, the EC14D07U netbook has been discountinued by Gateway.

This netbook was setup for failure from the beginning.  The first problem was the price.  At over $600 they were forcing people to make a hard decision about a full sized computer with a lot more functionality or a new netbook.  Over time we now see an overpriced netbook just doesn’t trump a computer or an iPad.

Gateway tried and they deserve some points for that.  Netbooks grew in popular because of the shift from needing a big bulky computer with a media drive.  The interest in netbooks happened out of low prices, long batteries, and customers daring to take a chance.  Years have passed since netbooks hit the scene and the truth is that there isn’t much room for many high end ultraportable computers.

EC14D07U, you will be sorely missed.
