MSI Doesn’t Want You Upgrading Your Netbook

Pictured above is the U135 netbook from MSI. I recently covered a review of the U135 and one thing was shocking to me. There is no way to upgrade this computer without voiding your warranty. Even though you can see the hard drive and memory slot through the vents on the bottom of the device no one at MSI thought it would be useful to allow people to keep their netbook going over time.
Thankfully, MSI doesn’t take this position with all of their netbooks and their higher end U210 and U230 are available with removable panels so you can get access to the RAM. On one end you have companies like Acer who allow you to access the hard drive, memory and PCI slot with just a few screws.
This is something you rarely hear about but is really important if you’re considering buying a new netbook. In the meantime it’s a pretty safe bet to stay away from the U135 for the time being. For the same price (or even lower) you can buy a netbook with similar specs and performance with the option to upgrade without voiding your warranty.
