U160 MSI Wind Netbook Gets Naked For Camera

To give an idea on how MSI’s engineers packed everything into its slim chassis, the guys over at NetbookNews.it have dissected the Wind U160 to give us a closer look.

They claim that dismantling the U160 is both easy and fast, with ten main screws holding the bottom cover in place. Be aware though that by removing the bottom invalidates your warranty, so proceed with caution if you think of doing something similar once the Wind U160’s eventually hit retail.

The motherboard comes in two parts, much like the Asus Eee PC 1005PE. The Intel N450 Atom chipset is very small, but despite the increased power efficiency, a small ventilation system is still required. There’s no spare Mini PCI-E slot, the first being occupied by a Wi-Fi card, so those wanting to stick in a Broadcom Crystal HD card are out of luck (unless you want to sacrifice wireless capabilities).

is that a full sized memory slot, or is the netbook just a LOT smaller than I think?

It has a full sized memory slot, but netbook memory is only 200 pin. Maybe that's the difference in what you're seeing.

Wow, I did not realize just how tiny these things are. When I said full sized i meant 240 pin. The 200 pin slot just looks sooo big on this thing. (Part of my confusion is the fact that the memory slot on the MSI is the same size relative to the board, as a full sized memory slot on a desktop motherboard)

Things are not always as they seem....inside of a netbook is pretty plain. You can tell they are built to not cost much, but as simple as they are many are a pain to take apart to get to the good stuff.
