Netbook LCD Screen Orders On The Decline

According to several nebook screen manufacturers, orders for LCD screens are on the slide.  With the iPad launching in April and rising prices for screen netbook manufacturers are getting smarter about how many screens they order in advance.  In the beginning of 2010 they were ordering in excess expecting a big uptick in sales and being able to accommodate it.  Unfortunately it doesn’t look like that is going to take place.

Many people may be waiting to purchase their netbook because they know better and newer models are on the way.  Also, after so many people have already bought a netbook the addressable market of people who can buy a netbook is much smaller.

Everyone from Acer to Asus to HP have significantly raised their 2010 sales targets for netbooks.  If these target don’t appear to be getting met by the middle of the year expect to see from radical promotions and price slashing to help jump start sales.  It’s hard to tell if the decline in orders has more to do with actual sales or manufacturers becoming more realistic about how sales are going so far in 2010.
