Busted: Gizmodo Netbook Review = FAIL

Before I ever started my first blog, I was captivated by all of the cool technology you could see just by typing in Gizmodo.com into a browser.  I’ve read posts on the site ever since and while I don’t agree with their turn to not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content to rile up their male audience the other content is usually real good.  You can imagine my disappointment to read this article billed as a review of “The Best New Netbooks.”

The biggest issue that’s misleading is that few if any of the netbooks in the article have been called the best by anyone but them.  The only netbook which rightfully should be part of the list is the Toshiba NB305.  The netbooks from Sony, Dell, and HP come from the depth of obscurity and were included likely because they were all that Gizmodo could get their hands on.  Bloggers like me have to buy the netbook we review because no one sends them to me for free.  I can’t waste my time on the stray cats, I can only focus on the best of the best and for not one Asus netbook to be included make the whole article a farce.

The other disappointment is that they only look at the 10 inch netbooks.  12 inch netbooks are en vogue and are likely to stay that way for some time.  The Gateway EC14D07u, Asus 1201N, Toshiba T135-1125, Lenovo X100e, Acer 1410, or MSI U230 are all fighting to take hundreds of dollars from customers.  There is less harm spending $299 versus $499.  Many of the machines Gizmodo tested were priced very close to the aforementioned 12 inch models which make me wonder even more why you’d tell someone to spend $450 on a 10 inch netbook when $30 more can get you so much in a netbook.

While I would love to think that me calling them out would prompt them to update their article or at least put out a supplement to it I realize my space in the food chain.  My allegiance is to those who read this blog or may want to share it with someone else.  Feel free to read the article at Gizmodo, just take it with a huge grain of salt.
