Acer + Pixel Qi To Team Up For Super Long Lasting Netbooks

Pixel Qi is gaining a lot of attention because of their screens.  While they were originally shown in eBook reader and tablets they may be coming to netbooks soon.  Pixel Qi already has a 10 inch model of their screen which will be available around Summer 2010.  It’s within reason to believe that Acer has already tested out using the screen in their line of Aspire One netbooks and undrstanding how they help to increase battery life.

These screens use from 25 – 50% less energy than tradition LED backlit screens currently used in netbooks.  With the screen being one of the largest users of power in a netbook this kind of feature would create another level of high end netbooks.  Another benefit is that the screens are easy to read in direct sunlight.  Typically the screen on a netbook washes out when it comes in contact with direct sunlight.

The image in the top right hand section of this post is actually an image of an Acer netbook with a screen already installed.  This model is an Acer Aspire One D250.  Acer is looking to come out with whatever permutations imaginable to retain their lead in the netbook space.  Whether it’s coming out with dual boot Android netbooks, or add Wimax, or DVD drives they are taking risks to stay at the head of the pack.

While there is no official word on pricing or availability, expect a commercially available product to come by the end of 2010.
