1005PE-PU27-BK Netbook Brings Matte Finish To 1005PE

A lot of people like the 1001P, and the 1201NB for one reason – they both have a matte finish.  With the 1005PE being it’s most popular unit (in terms of sales) it only makes sense that they’d bring the same treatment.

The 1005-PU27-BK does exactly that.  Asus calls it their Soft-Touch black finish.  The benefit is huge with the appearance of fingerprints being a big problem for netbooks with a glossy finish.  This model is the same in every other aspect with the exception of it’s finish and it’s price tag.  Asus is charging a slight premium for the pleasure of not leaving finger prints all over you 1005PE.  Amazon is currently selling the 1005PE-PU27-BK for $389.

Here is a breakdown of the specifications for anyone who might be curious:

so im looking at this or the 1005ha. is that extra cost really worth the extra 4 (theoretical) hours of battery life.

I'd definitely encourage you to give the 1005HA a look. The 1005PE is a great model, but the lowest price I've seen on one is about $290 - meanwhile you can get the 1005HA for $220 through TigerDirect (and Bing Cash Back). The biggest difference is the processor, graphics, and operating system. The battery life difference is going to be minimal because the 1005HA will still last you longer than any full sized notebook.

Windows 7 is cool, but I find Windows XP to be better all around. Especially for these lower end, slower machines. I just bought my wife a 1005HA so I'm a little biased but that's my opinion on the matter.
