Netbook Storage Could Reach 1TB In 2012!
Toshiba, in cooperation with the Keio University in Japan, has found a way to create a technology which will allow Solid State Drives (SSDs) up to 1TB in size. This would be a dramatic leap in terms of storage capacity since SSD are currently only available up to 64 or 128GB configurations.
The real key in this innovation is that while 1TB is a huge amount of storage Toshiba will be able to build them smaller than current 1.8″ hard drives found in devices like Apple iPods. They’ll be able to be sized down to the size of a postage stamp.
Since Toshiba is flying by itself on this one there’s a chance that this technology might never see the light of day. With there being no fixed specification governing this new innovation computer makers may opt to stay away so they don’t get lured into a dead end technology.
