Intel’s SU2300 Processor Uses “New” Form Of SpeedStep

Ahh Intel, you almost got me. I almost pulled out my credit card and bought a netbook with a SU2300 processor. I got dazzled by the fact that it’s a dual core processor and that netbooks with these chips have HDMI allowing me to show video on my HDTV easily.
Like I said, you ALMOST got me. I did some research to understand exactly how these processor performed and made an interesting discovery.
It turns out that the SU2300 does not have the same kind of SpeedStep technology employed in many of it’s other processors. Usually when you choose to boost the battery life of your computer the processor slows down. The SU2300 lowers the voltage instead of the clockspeed which doesn’t provide the same amount of battery performance.
You might get an extra 15 – 30 minutes with the SU2300 without using software tool.
Scottie at scottietech.info was able to get up to 7 hours when he used CrystalCPUID. Having a dual core processor in a computer under $400 is a touch deal to pass up but just make sure you know what you’re getting into.
