Dear iiView, the Vpad Sucks!

The Vpad from iiView is pretty pitiful. It’s ambitious but in the end it falls horribly short of what people want and are willing to pay for. I’ve never held one of these in my hand so this isn’t a true review. This is all based on the information they provide on their site.
The Vpad is a 10 inch netbook with it’s keyboard removed and turned into a tablet. Now if you wanted to a buy a 10 inch netbook with a N270 processor you could buy one for $229 on lots of websites all over the internet. You would have to pay to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 so lets say you pay another $70 for Windows 7 and end up at $299. iiView is charging a $200 premium for the pleasure of not having a keyboard and being able to type on the screen. Frankly that’s just not right.
If you’re going to pay the $499 for an entry level tablet you should be able to actually play online video smoothly. The N270 Intel Atom processor and Intel 945 graphics chipset isn’t going to play much online video.
The Vpad isn’t in any retail stores so there’s an opportunity for the company to either a) lower the price or b) beef up the specs. If they don’t do either I feel sorry for anyone who decides to buy one.
Consider yourself warned.
