In addition to being one of the best netbooks under $300, the Asus 1001P can now say that it’s also an Editors’ Choice winner.  Laptop magazine gave the honor to the inexpensive netbook for several reasons:

1) Keyboard – Even though the 1001P doesn’t have a chiclet style keyboard they actually like the way the keyboard felt.  It has a unique spacing which made for great touch typing.

2) Matte case – The 1001P has a matte casing which means that it’s great when it comes to fingerprints.  Over time it become a great feature to have so you don’t waste time cleaning your netbook ever few days.

3) Battery life – One of the main benefits of a netbook is battery life.  Many other netbooks only have a battery life of around 5 hours.  The 1001P has a battery life of almost 8 hours and 30 minutes.

4) Extras – Asus provides an instant-on OS which will allow you to listen to music, or browse the web without booting fully into Windows.  There are several other programs meant to increase the functionality.

Initially we compared the Asus 1001P and the 1005PE and declared the 1005PE as the winner.  With the 1005PE selling for only $329 I still stand behind my initial decision but the 1001P is still a great option.
