3 Reasons Acer Will Stay Netbook Sales Leader In 2010

When it comes to netbooks, Acer is king of the world (sorry for the Titanic reference). Despite eagerness from Asus, HP, and Samsung they are primed to keep the lead throughout 2010.
Even though Acer isn’t expecting sales to grow dramatically in 2010, they have at least three things going for them which will guarantee that they keep leading the pack.
1) Low end eMachines netbooks – eMachines netbooks are loved because of their low price and wide distribution. As Acer continues to flood the market with low cost product with the eMachines label, they will be able to keep sales pumping. This will impact their ability to make profits but with Walmart selling a $228 netbook they are in good position to sell with great volume.
2) ION 2 – Acer lead the way with their 532g with Nvidia’s ION 2 graphics. This will bring HDMI to 10.1″ netbooks which is a feature that has been sorely missed. These netbooks will also go on sale for under the $399 price tag the current crop of HDMI netbooks sell for. If Acer is able to get the 532g to market with a good enough lead ahead of the competition they will be able to take over this segment of netbooks.
3) Google – In addition to ION 2 netbooks, Acer is also going to be releasing a netbook with Google’s Chrome OS. They expect to sell a million of these in the first year that they’ll be available.
Acer isn’t going to make an iPad-killer, or an eBook reader but these types of innovations to the current netbook space are sure to raise eyebrows and keep them in the lead.
