ATI HD3200 Vs. Nvidia ION (9400)

Who’s going to win?  Nvidia has taken the lead with their ION graphic platform but AMD is used to coming from behind and being the best at being number two.  AMD has started pairing their HD3200 video card with single and dual core AMD Neo processors.  When two competing technologies emerge the question is always posed about which is superior.

Answering the question requires subjectivity.  There aren’t any benchmarks putting the two against each other but the 9400 video card which is used in the ION is a more capable video card than the HD3200.  Both are capable when it comes to watching online video.

ION is tuned to decoding and encoding thanks to the latest version of Flash and CUDA optimizations.  While both may be able to allow you to play certain games or stream online video there is a big difference no one has picked up on.

Every netbook I’ve seen with ION built in has an HDMI port for video out.  This means that if you want to watch Hulu on your HDTV you can do so with a click of the mouse and hooking up a cable.  The netbooks which have come with the HD3200 have been absent of this feature.  If you’re going to be paying over $400 for a netbook, it looks like ION netbooks offer more power, and features.

FYI There are netbooks with the 3200 that have HDMI ports I own one such...Toshiba t115-1125s. My bro has a similar netbook with the ion and an atom 330 1.6 dual core and my laptop outperforms his.
