Acer To Release Chrome OS Netbook In Q3 2010

For those of you who have been dying to get your hands on a netbook based on Google’s Chrome OS you wait may soon come to an end. A recent Bloomberg article points to Acer doing a lot of great things in 2010 with one of them being releasing their own Chrome OS netbook. The rumored release is Q3 which would put it on shelves in time for the holidays.
This isn’t Acer’s first use of Google’s OSes on their netbooks. Acer released the Acer Aspire One D250-1613 which allowed you to dual boot between Windows and Google Android. Much hasn’t been made out of it as Android is a platform for smartphones but it helped to prime customers for this upcoming release.
According to Engadget, a Google based netbook will be quite sweet.
“For starters, we’re told that the 10.1-inch machine will be ARM-based, while NVIDIA’s Tegra platform (likely the second generation) steers the graphical ship. There’s also promise of a multitouch panel (1,280 x 720 resolution), 64GB SSD, WiFi, 2GB of RAM, integrated 3G connectivity, Bluetooth, an Ethernet jack, an undisclosed amount of USB sockets, webcam, 3.5mm audio jack, a multi-card reader, a 4- or 6-cell battery and optional GPS.”
Depending on the actual processor and graphics used the price could vary wildly. Google is unlikely to charge much if at anything for companies to license the OS which will surely make it cheaper than a comparably priced netbook with Windows.
