Acer To Leverage eMachines Brand To Flood Market With Cheap Netbooks

Acer has been planning a careful assault on the PC market. They started with providing laptops priced under HP, Dell, and Toshiba hoping people would take notice. Customers did, and in a big away. To help keep up the steam Acer bought eMachines, another brand who paved their way on the back of low pricetags.
In the netbook space Acer is looking to push the eMachines brand further as a way of gaining share and wearing away at the lead HP has in portable computers. The best example is the eMachines EM250. It sold at Walmart for $228 and even to this day people are still talking about how great a deal it is. The people at Acer took notice and found the opportunity to seize.
According to an Acer executive:
The response to eMachines, our entry level brand, targeted at the pure value consumer, has been more than encouraging over the last 6 months. Customer’s looking for practicality and good functionality are the target audience here. There is enormous potential at the bottom of the pyramid for an affordable computing solution.
No new models have been announced and even with the EM250 you can’t buy it from any stores online except for a marketplace listing at Amazon. Acer may decide to keep these kinds of releases a secret to keep everyone on their toes. One thing is certain; customers will notice and make sure that the next deal sells out if it is priced anything like their first deal.
