HP Mini 311 Owners Reporting Issues With Choppy HD Video

Chance Stevens 22 December 2009 577 views View Comments

The HP Mini 311 is one of the best netbooks available on the market today, but all that glitters is not gold.  Some people are reporting issues with choppy video playback.  It turns out the issue may come down to how the original video content was encoded as well as the software being used to watch or stream content.

Thanks to a community of helpful users several solutions have come up for people experiencing this issue.  The first thing you should try is CoreAVC.  This software is optimized for the Nvidia ION chipset and is GPU accelerated.  The second thing to try is to buy some hardware.  The BroadCom BCM970012 is a mini PCIe card which will fit inside of the Mini 311.  You can buy this HD decoder for under $25 on eBay.

The last resort would be to do nothing.  Software is always being updated whether it be Flash, or Windows Media Player and it’s no surprise to believe that over time whatever issues you’re having will be update with the click of a button.

You can join the conversation going on at HP’s website.
