Having the ability to view more on your computer screen is dependent on the resolution it displays. The higher the resolution the more you can fit on your screen. This means that an 800×600 screen shows less information than a 1024×768 screen, so on and so on.

When it comes to netbooks, typically the screens are only 1024×600. This is great for most of the web since most websites are usually best designed for either 800×600 or 1024×768. This means that your web windows take up your whole screen which isn’t always the best way you want to use your computer.

A handful of netbooks are capable of displaying resolutions higher than the 1024×600 standard. When picking the netbook you want to buy it’s important not to skip over those two numbers. With a majority of the netbooks currently available packing 10 inch screens it’s a good benefit to be able to squeeze more screen. A good example is the HP Mini 2140. This netbook packs a 1366×768 screen which helps you see a lot more of what’s going on.  The only thing to be careful of is whether or not the high resolution on such a compact space will make it hard to read email, or visit sites online.

One of the big reasons why many people are so excited about 11.6 inch netbooks like the Asus 1101HA is that with the larger screen comes higher resolution screens.  The Eee PC 1101HA comes with the 1366×768 LED screen which provides an experience much more in line with what someone would expect on a traditional notebook.

Whether you’re looking to buy a netbook for yourself or for someone else, make sure you consider the screen resolution.  While 1024×600 may not both most people, you may find that investing a little bit more for a higher resolution screen will end up paying off in the end.
