These two netbook look very similar even though one is the Toshiba NB205 while the other is the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Both netbooks use the Intel N280 processor which runs at 667Hz in the Asus while only running at 533Hz in the Toshiba. This is done to help preserve battery life.
Both netbooks have the chicklet-style keyboard which helps to improve typing speed and accuracy. Six cell batteries are becoming standard in 10 inch netbooks and neither of these two disappoint there. In fact, you’re going to get at least 8 hours of run time either way.
While Kevin at GigaOM is in love with his Toshiba netbook, there are some things which I think give the 1000HE the edge.
1) The warranty – Asus gives you a two year Global warranty and promise zero defects in the screen. Anyone who has owned a computer will appreciate that.
2) 10GB online storage – Asus also gives you remote storage; something other netbooks don’t provide.
3) The 1000HE currently retails for $379, while the NB205 retails for $399.
It’s up to you, but I’m enjoying the increasing competition in the netbook space.
