Rumor: RJ45 Ports To Be Removed In Future Netbooks
The point of a netbook is for it to connect to the web….right?
More and more the web is available via Wi-fi, bluetooth, or mobile broadband connections. With this shift happening faster and faster it just seems to make sense that the day will come when you can no longer plug your netbook into a wired network to get an internet connection. This may have some impact on the claims companies use when they talk about battery life as connecting to the web wireless requires a lot of power.
Ultimately if doing this will make netbooks lighter and cheaper, it sounds like a good move. A part of me thinks that it’s better to be safe and sorry and have a computer with a wired jack but if everyone felt like me we’d still have RJ11, serial, and parallel ports on netbooks with floppy drives.
