As Netbook Prices Increase Will Demand Disappear?
With the size of netbook getting past seven or eight inches and getting into double digit screen sizes it begs the question if netbook are pricing themselves out of favorability.
People, looking for value may like the portability of a netbook but not the pricetag. Even with my own 1000HE, if I added an extra $50 or $75 dollars I would have been able to have gotten a full notebook with a 15 inch screen and a media drive. While it’s true that many people use their netbook to connect to web-centric services there are people who may not know how to download or require software which needs to be installed.
This leads people to have to decide if portable is better than price. For many, portability will take the price.
Why?
You can always wait and pick up a computer on sale. This means that the netbook you were eyeing which cost $429 can drop to $399, $379 or even lower. No matter how long you want you’ll never be able to make a notebook smaller. You’ll never be able to make it lighter, and it most likely won’t come with a 6 cell battery and won’t be rated to work for 5+ hours.
It remains to be seen if there’s a price people just won’t pay for a netbook, but with Sony’s P-series netbook starting at $799 manufacturers may be looking to test the bounds in pricing until people stop buying.
