What I’ll Be Using As My Next Netbook

6 May 2009 15 views Comments

There are so many netbooks out there it’s hard to tell which could be the right one.  Instead of trying to figure it all out I actually sat down to make my decision.  First I had to consider what things in a netbook I wanted:

-Long battery life
-Bluetooth
-Keyword with space

After looking at the options, I’ve settled on the Asus EEE 1000HE

Here are the specs to show that this gave me everything I was looking for:

  • XP-Preloaded with 160G large H.D.D.
  • Intel Atom 280 Processor (1.66 GHz, FSB: 667MHz)
  • 6 cell high density battery pack allow for longer battery lifespan of up to 9.5 hours.
  • High Speed Connectivity Anywhere with Wi-Fi 802.11n (2.4GHz only). Eee Connect for an easy way to connect two or more users through a remote desktop feature for easy troubleshooting.
  • Free 1 YR Warranty (6 month for battery, 30 day ZBD Guaranteed) and sleeve
  • Originally, I wanted to get an MSI Wind.  The 9″ screen of the Acer Aspire One was too small and so was the 3 cell battery.  This ruled out a lot of the choices out there.  Also, I wanted to be able to have bluetooth and wireless built-in.  There are USB add-ons for both but with a limited amount of USB ports.  Lastly I didn’t want to spend more than $400.

Once I knew I was going to get the 1000HE, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t paying more than I had to.  With the economy the way it is there had to be deals better than the $399 MSRP.

The best deal available online was at BuyDig.com who is selling the 1000HE for $379.  Shipping is free if you don’t mind it taking 4 – 7 business days.  The next step up was only about $3, so for $382 this beauty will be in my hand in the next 3 busines days.

If you’re not sure which netbook is for you, you may definitely want to give this one a look.  I’ll be taking pictures and some videos once I get it just to show it off and share.  Feel free to check back for updates.
