People Reporting 1000H Screens Cracking

Chance Stevens 7 May 2009 19 views View Comments

Over at EeeUser.com there are some mounting concerns about the quality of the screens used in the 1000H.  While only two people have reported actual cases, it’s important to note that netbooks are inexpensive because many of the qualities of higher end notebooks are stripped.

These qualities include stronger and thicker plastic used in the casing, cushioning around the screen to absorb vibrations, and use of a better quality screen.

This isn’t a definitely yell for a recall, but more of a FYI (for your information).  Remember that you can’t go and start dropping these netbooks just because they’re small and light.  Also, if you’re going to be getting a netbook for a child or just someone that’s clumsy a great case will go a lonngggggg way.

While I don't have the Asus netbook, I do have the Acer Aspire One. I bought this netbook in November 2008. It had a problem with it in April 2009 and was shipped back to Acer. When I opened the box on its return, the screen was cracked. It went back to Acer, where they replaced the screen. Last night I went to use the netbook and found there was cracks across the screen. This unit had not been used in four days, had not been dropped nor mishandled. Upon doing a search I found others had posted about this issue with the screen - no abuse of the netbook - opened it up, turned it on and there are cracks. One person reported that her netbook had been sitting on a shelf unused, not touched at all for four weeks. She went to use it there were cracks across the screen. Something is just not right.
