World Thinks AMD Will Discuss Netbooks Tomorrow

The title says it all, but it seems to be mostly hopeful anticipation than anything else.  AMD has been sitting on the bench for what could be called a long time as Intel creates a vertical integration that would even make Apple stand up and applaud.

Intel makes a wide range of processors, they’re entered into a joint venture with Micron to start making SSD’s and they’ve made graphic processors for a while.  Intel frequently makes reference design products to show manufacturers how you can take their products and evolve their offerings.

Where has AMD been?  They’ve been working on adding processors to televisions, trying to find someone to sell processors to now that even Dell doesn’t want to work with them the way they used to.

It was only a few years ago when AMD was seen as a value proposition when it came to processors.  After it purchased ATI many thought they’d continue making chipsets similar to their Nforce line with Nvidia just featuring ATI chips.  Unfortunately, people are left with only hope that AMD won’t end up like Palm and just be a memory of a great company.

Of course, if they do end up announcing a new netbook processor, this whole point is null and void but that’s what life’s about - taking risks.
