Dell Mini Netbooks, Netbook News »

Pointing fingers never feels good.  It goes back to being in grade school and never wanting to be the tattle tale.  Still when something isn’t right you have to correct it.  Liliputing.com, a great site for all things computer related, posted a story about QVC selling the Dell Mini 9 netbook for $529 which should only be $449 by their count.

The problem is that when you look at what QVC is selling you realize that it actually isn’t a bad deal, as much as QVC usually seems like a ripoff …

As more time goes by, what is being said about Windows 7 keeps getting better and better. First, it came out that all you’ll need is 256MB of RAM and a 1Ghz processor in order for it to boot up.
Now it comes out that the new Windows operating system will allow boot time to be cut dramatically as well as extending battery life. If things keep getting better, Vista would have been worth it to get to this product.

If you want to take a look at what a netbook should look like, take a gander at the VIA Openbook.  The beauty of it is that you’re able to add modules to allow for unlimited possibilities for connectivity.  You’d be able to buy a card for Wi-fi and swap it out for EV-DO and then swap it out again for WiMax.
This would have been a goldmine for manufacturers.  Companies compete to make different modules and service professionals fight tooth and nail to be able to get a customer’s business to …

Digitimes is reporting that Nvidia and VIA were planning on working together to create a platform for netbooks and put the partnership on hold.  Intel is the compelling force behind netbooks with VIA hoping to get the C7m processors in the mix.  This is a blow to customers who will be at the mercy of Intel in the netbooks category.
AMD said that they won’t be providing a separate chip for netbooks.  They have their Geode processor which is being used in the OLPC, but that processor only runs at 500Mhz currently.
Stay …

Earlier today, Best Buy was getting a lot of press because they are selling the popular MSI Wind with Windows XP for $349.
The good vibes didn’t last very long when a story of horrible customer service surfaced.  A customer picked up a Sony mini-notebook and the accompanying warranty.  When something happened, he went back to his Best Buy store realizing that the store was the best place to go in order to get the problem fixed.  True to their word, Best Buy was ready to replace the notebook or give …

Back in September 2008 BoingBoing asked where Sony’s entry to the netbook market is.  Currently the closest thing to a netbook that Sony sells is the TT series.  It’s small and light, but it’s about $1,600 too much to be considered a netbook.
Now if you consider the TT series has an 11″ LED backlit screen and weighs under 3 lbs. we only need to figure out a way to get the price down to something more reasonable and in line with the rest of the market.
The entry level TT starts …

First isn’t always best, just ask Asus.  They took lead in promoting their Eee PC last year.  Now Acer has come on strong to promote their Acer Aspire One.  So much so that Acer is looking to ship 6 million netbooks which is more than the 5 million Asus is looking to ship in 2008.
Acer has been pricing themselves very competitively in the market and they are one of the few netbooks which can be had with a 6 cell battery standard instead of having to pay for one separately.  …

It’s true.  Every manufacturer of netbooks, from HP to Asus should be sending a big Thank You basket over to Palm’s offices.  I’m sure they could use the encouragement.
In May 2007, Palm announce the Foleo.  Many people in the blogsphere called it the “Fool-eo.”  The idea was pretty simple: people love their Palm devices, but wanted a larger screen to take full advantage of the office centric applications without lugging around an actual notebook.  The Foleo would fill that need by acting as an in between device, specifically for road …
